Docdoc the medical appointment booking portal

Booking an appointment with a medical specialist could become easier with a portal launched yesterday.

Called DocDoc.com, it lets patients search for and book appointments with over 11,000 specialists - such as dentists, cardiologists and paediatricians - for free.

Established here by a firm called DocDoc, the site allows patients to see and book available appointment slots at participating specialists, who pay a monthly fee.

After a booking is made, DocDoc.com sends a reminder to users one day ahead of, as well as two hours before, an appointment.

About 44 per cent of the specialists listed are in private practice. The rest are specialists in the public sector.

An iPhone app version of the portal will be released in the next couple of weeks, followed by an Android app.

An interesting concept that Grace Park and Hadi El-Solh has created. DocDoc provides a solution for consumers while generating new business for doctors at a low cost. So basically the Docdoc company is funded on a recurrent cost to the doctors.

DocDoc, an electronic reservation calendar and patient appointment system designed for dentists, surgeons, cardiologists and other specialty doctors throughout Singapore and soon to roll out in South Korea. It is meant to be a simple, easy-to-use website and mobile app in multiple languages that patients can trust whether they're on the go, or helping to arrange an appointment for someone they love. Our doctor portal features a powerful scheduling system that promotes available openings, handles calendar changes, provides electronic patient alerts, and more.

Interesting, will explore how user friendly the system is...

Did an initial trial of the system.

Likes:
1. provides information about the listed doctor/dentist and clinic
2. ability to provide patient reviews (although nothing written yet, since it is a new program)
3. allows user to book their appointments

Dislike:
1. tried search for a particular doctor that i know and it is not listed. So it is not a comprehensive listing. It is probably for just doctors willing to pay (or try) this program
2. Inaccuracies of listing e.g physical therapist shows osteopaths and chiropractors.. Hey, it's different!!!!

Overall, interesting concept. It brings out the patient appointment system that is normally managed within the clinic to a online platform system. I'm not sure how they are going to manage those patients who never cancel or reschedule their appointments.
Be looking forward to see their progress...
